NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE (NDE)

The two most wonderful phenomenon of Human Life Is LIFE and DEATH. Reasons and Time for the happening of these two stages of Human Life is uncertain and unaccountable. So being born is the time we gain our consciousness and we are dormant about our past lives. Death on other hand is the most saddest and scariest thing to imagine because we lack awareness of what lies the moment we die. We possess the “Fear of Unknown”. However there are people who have experienced the death and revived sharing their experience of what they went through from being clinically dead to reviving back in their body, to what we call as “NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE” (NDE).

In 1975, psychiatrist Dr. Raymond Moody, released his best-selling book, Life After Life, which focused public attention on the near-death experience like never before. It was Dr. Moody who actually coined the term " NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE (NDE)."

In a near-death episode, a person is either clinically dead, near death, or in a situation where death is likely or expected. These circumstances include serious illness or injury, such as from a car accident, military combat, childbirth, or suicide attempt. People in profound grief, in deep meditation, or just going about their normal lives have also described experiences that seem just like NDEs, even though these people were not near death.

What exactly happens when they mean to experience NDEs is:

  • People hear strange sound while having sense of being dead.

  • All the pain they carry in the physical state i.e. the Body Pain evaporates leaving the Body painless, light and calm.

  • People experience rising above their physical body and floating, wherein they can see the people surrounded by their body.

  • People experience drawn in the tunnel full of darkness at extremely high speed until reaching realm of radiant golden white light. Also instead of tunnel people experience rising into the heavens and seeing Earth and celestial sphere as would be seen in space.

  • After reaching the Golden Light, people meet the soul/people who glow with an inner light, often they find friends or relatives who have already died come to greet them.

  • After meeting people of light, the dying meet the powerful spiritual being whom some have identified as religious figure viz. God, Jesus, Guardian Angels, etc.

  • The Being of Light presents the dying with a panoramic review of everything they have ever done. That is, they relive every act they have ever done to other people and come away feeling that love is the most important thing in life.

  • After all they experience, the Being of light tells the dying to return to life. Other times they are given a choice of staying or returning. In either case, they are reluctant to return. The people who choose to return do so only because of loved ones they do not wish to leave behind.

To share a few stories of people who experienced NDE are:

  • Recently Actress Sharon Stone reported in Times of India on September 18,2016 edition:

Actress Sharon Stone said there was a time when she was suffering from brain hemorrhage and claimed she had died before coming back to life.

The actress spoke about the incident, which happened in 2001, to Closer magazine, reports;

"I feel that I did die, "the "Basic Instinct "said."This kind of giant vortex of white light was upon me and - poof! I sort of took off into this glorious, bright-white light," she added.
She said that she got to meet some of her late friends and loved ones. "I started to see and be met by some of my friends... people who were very, very dear to me (who had died)," she recalled.
"I had a real journey with this that took me to places both here and beyond." However, she didn't stay there too long. "But it was very fast - whoosh! Suddenly, I was back. I was back in my body," she continued, adding that the experience "affected (her) life so profoundly that it will never be the same." Following the brain hemorrhage, Stone spent several years undergoing extensive rehabilitation to learn how to walk and talk again.
Thanks to the experience, she is now not afraid of death anymore.
"I get not to be afraid of dying and I get to tell other people that it's a fabulous thing and death is a gift," she concluded.
"When death becomes you, as it will, it's a glorious beautiful thing. I had an incredible sense of well-being and a sense that it's just so near. Death, it's very near and very safe. It's not a far away or scary thing."

  • The evidence suggests NDEs are transcendental journeys to another dimension of reality profoundly changing the lives of those who have them. One particular near-death experiencer, Dr. Dianne Morrissey, eloquently stated this way:

“If I lived a billion years more, in my body or yours, there's not a single experience on Earth that could ever be as good as being dead. Nothing." - Dr. Dianne Morrissey, near-death experience”

  • One of my favorite television Series- “Greys Anatomy” also captured NDE wherein the lead character “Meredith dies from drowning and is brought back to life after visiting her mother .”

  • Experience of  Stefan G Probable:

“In 2002 I had a severe car crash where I hit a tree right on at 80 km/h.  I lost consciousness several times. The first experience was when my body was lying on the operating table. I had 6 or 7 doctors and nurses around me.  Yet, I was standing in a corner of the surgery room and watched for about 20 seconds to see how they were operating on me.

I was weightless and slowly flying straight up. I was standing upright but not on a surface where I would have been able to stand. Surrounding me was an agreeable brightness that was white but not blinding.  I felt truly good. I didn't think. I just let everything happen and it was beautiful. After a short time, I saw a gray edge above me, that was slightly bent. I moved towards this edge and when I was there, I saw my deceased mother and her mother who was my grandmother. I knew that if I went through the door, I would be dead immediately, but that I would be in heaven. I stayed. After this the NDE ended immediately.

In the second experience, my grandmother put her hand on my mother's shoulder.  Without talking but through 'thought transmission' we all knew immediately what was going on.  Within tenths of a second my grandmother 'communicated' to my mother, that I would be there soon.  Time seems to be different there because- a second can be decades or more.  I didn't take my mother's hand.  After that the NDE was ending immediately.

Nevertheless, in both cases, I had the choice. I could have left the operating room immediately and been in 'heaven'.

I could also have taken my mother's hand and would also be there.

My life and my way of living changed after the accident and the NDEs. At the age of 35, I'm now a pensioner and there are many things that I cannot do anymore. But the NDEs positively changed my life. I'm much more serene than before. There are many things that I don't take as seriously. I'm doing a lot more thinking instead of doing something. I'm not afraid death any more. I'm rarely get upset. I have much more respect for people, animals and plants, and etc.”

SHARE DEATH EXPERIENCE

Dr. Raymond Moody  studied Shared-Death Experiences beginning in 1973, but more intensively since about 1980.

People who are connected emotionally to the dying person have experienced the Near death experience of dying person wherein they see the dying person’s spirit or they have accompanied the dying person half way towards light, etc. to what we call as “SHARED DEATH EXPERIENCES” (SDE).

In SDEs, bystanders who are close to a dying person experience many of the same aspects of the NDE along with the dying person, including leaving their bodies, meeting beings of light, and seeing the life review of the dying person. These bystanders are themselves healthy and not dying yet seem to share these experiences.

Dr. Raymond Moody's continuing research of NDEs, led him to a completely new phenomenon called the "Shared Death Experience" which he documented in his book, Glimpses of Eternity: An Investigation Into Shared Death Experiences. This is a phenomenon where an NDE is actually shared by someone who is not dying, but who is emotionally connected or in close proximity to someone who is concurrently in the "life/death transition."

Following elements are characterized and reported in SDEs;

  • Seeing the dying person's spirit leave the body

  • Accompanying the dying person part-way toward a light

  • Experiencing a change in geometry of the room

  • Hearing beautiful music

  • Seeing a brilliant light

  • Perceiving spirits entering the room

  • Emphatically co-living the life review of a dying person

One of the amazing experiences I came across while the research was that of Sussanna Uballe:

In the Summer, 1996, edition of the Journal of Possible Paradigms, Issue 4, an unusual shared NDE is described by a woman named Sussanna Uballe. Here she describes what happened:

"The experience of co-experiencing death is, I feel, much like an NDE. I did not have a near death experience, but did travel part way up the tunnel with my husband as he left this dimension.

"On Memorial day (observed), May 27, 1979, I was five months pregnant with my son, Christopher. My husband and I rode bicycles and ran errands around town, and it was a very hot day for Minneapolis. I lay down after dinner and was so exhausted that I could barely move. As my husband went to the corner store about 8:00 to buy something for his lunch the next day, I fell into a very deep sleep.

"I dreamt that I was walking with my husband, Herb, up a dark and shady forest path. It was a heavily wooded path, which was enclosed by a thick canopy of trees overhead. The path was slightly inclined, and at the crest of a hill I saw the sky, somewhat like the light at the end of a tunnel. Herb and I had been in deep conversation, about what I could not tell, but I suppose we were reminiscing about our relationship. I felt our very closeness and felt totally in love.

"He began to tell me about what it was like to die; at first filled with rage, pain, and frustration, and upset that the clerk didn't seem to understand his pleas to call an ambulance, that he had been stabbed in the heart and needed help. He said that after a short while, which felt interminable while he was experiencing it, he left his body and floated above it and saw the body below him, and felt detached from it, like it was just a body. He was filled with peace and love. And he felt no pain.

"After telling me this, he then said that he had to go. His feet started to move very fast, and he began to leave me behind on the path. I told him that I could do that too, and put some effort into "powering up" my feet to make them go super fast. I actually started to rev up and move along the path quickly, and felt as if I was traveling up a tunnel of forest toward the sunlight at the top of the hill. As I began to keep pace with him he said "NO!" in a very powerful voice, and I woke up in my bed, feeling hurt at being told no.

"I looked for him, to tell him about my dream. He wasn't there, and his side of the bed showed that he had not slept in the bed that night. It was dawn. I began to get irritated, thinking that he must have gone off with some friends, and feeling upset at how irresponsible he was behaving. I went to where we kept our bicycles, to see if his was there, and it wasn't. I was so angry that I broke the bicycle lock and chain off of my bicycle with my bare hands, (he had taken both keys with him), and set off down the street toward the corner store. His bicycle was near the store, and a patrolman was standing next to it. I asked him where my husband was, and why his bicycle was sitting there. He asked my name and address, and refused to tell me anything more. He suggested that I go back home, and that someone would explain everything to me later. In about fifteen minutes a police officer and a clergyman came by and told me that Herb had been killed the night before.

"The dream braced me for this news, and although I was in shock, I felt assured constantly that he was not in his body, and a comforting presence was with me throughout the next few days of viewing the body, the funeral and other unpleasant business.

"Two days after the funeral, I was preparing for bed and contemplating suicide to join Herb, so that we could be together on the other side or in our next phase of incarnation or whatever. I consciously thought a question, "Should I kill myself to join Herb, or stay here."

"I then went to bed. I was just falling asleep when I felt a presence by my right side, and looked to see Herb, naked and glowing with a soft, beautiful white light. He looked beautiful and I felt filled with love and happiness to see him. He spoke mentally to me, and said, "This is our son," indicating my womb, "Take good care of him." I had no question then about my purpose, and have tried to do the best possible job taking care of my son ever since. It did not at all seem strange that he used the word "son", and, of course, although these were the days before ultrasound, I did give birth to a boy."

Every Religion, every philosophy expresses similar texts about Life and Death phenomenon so also Life after Death and Rebirths. It’s we who need to be vigilant and seeking to know more of that we are Unknown to kill the fear.

Are we still scared of Death? I am sure Death is new beginning and you all agree to this!

This is the beginning to our study so,please stay connected for more insights in this topic of Near Death Experiences and Shared Death Experiences.
